- Thapar is far better than VIT in every branch. Thapar is in the league of DTU BITS and NITs. Its cutoff is around 2000-4000 in AIEEE which proves its better whereas VIT is not as good as Thapar,DTU or BITS. And average CSE graduate can get a job for 3 LPA in VIT but in Thapar it is around 6-7 LPA. So you decide :)The difference between IITs and NITs is same as the difference between Thapar and VIT where Thapar is a lot better in everything. And mind you student life is not good at VIT if it comes to food, weather, rules and regulations, facilities, social life and VIT study is exam oriented whereas Thapar has practical based study.

You can get into cse in the vellore campus easily with a 14-15k rank. Partly because they’ve got 640 seats in cse alone. Combined with the chennai campus(which is pretty new, 4,000 seats in the first year alone). Agreed, you’ve got a fully flexible credit system; and that amazon and yahoo recruit from that place, but figure your chances from a batch of 640.
As for life, I think you’d be better of in thapar, you have got chandigarh an hour’s drive away, and patiala ain’t bad either. Plus being in Punjab, you’ll never get food that has to be offered here.
Though I’m not so sure of its placement record, I’m pretty sure that you’ll have a crowd with a much superior intellectual capital in thapar. Partly because the vit test is taken by some 1.5 to 2 lakh students, and the scoring is pretty easy. Questions are easier, and no negatives. I got 2000 rank without any effort whatsoever. Ergo, it’s harder to get into thapar than it is to get a cse seat in vit.
Your choice dude.
