Banaras Hindu University have written to Minister of Human Resources Development, Mr.Kapil Sibal to convert IT-BHU to IIT soon, as the final year students will be graduating from the college soon and they will not get an IIT degree, as The ‘Institutes of Technology (Amendment) bill 2011′ has been pending before the Rajya Sabha for almost a year. Worst is the situation of the Students graduating from the newly established IIT’s , who will not be getting degrees even after the completion of their course.
In the letter to Kapil Sibal students said “As the bill is getting delayed in the Rajya Sabha, it is creating serious problems for our future careers. The uncertainty over the conversion of IT-BHU to IIT-BHU is also creating an unhealthy academic atmosphere in the campus”
The bill which needs Rajyasabha’s approval for a long time now seeks changes to the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 which will change IT-BHU to IIT apart from adding eight new IITs in Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Mandi, Patna and Ropar.
