Kapil Sibals new plan for JEE: Only top 20 percentile in 12th board eligible for IITs

After a strong opposition from faculty and alumni, including the IIT Faculty meeting with prime minister, Human Resources Development Minister Mr. Kapil Sibal has reportedly made a verbal offer removing weightage for 12th board examination in the common entrance examination and giving flexibility to IITs to conduct the JEE Advanced examination on any day they want and also asked IIT Delhi director RK Shevgaonkar to seek opinion of faculty across the IITs on the new compromise plan.

The new compromise plan to be discussed by the IIT Senates and faculty association this week makes only top 20% of students in 12th board eligible for JEE Advanced examination to be conducted by IITs, thus denying students below top 20% even a chance to try for IITs, now as 12th board scores will never be in-time for JEE Advanced examination, all the students taking JEE will have to appear for the advanced examination too, even though answer sheets of only top 20% students in board will be evaluated.

While HRD minister has said he would welcome if IITs to come up with a better solution, finally the decision on the same should come this week after the meeting of IIT Senates and Faculty to be held this week.
