\nChemistry has led to the development of many chemicals that are helping farmers in increasing the crop production in many ways. These are:
\n\n
(a) Fertilisers: These chemicals provide nutrients to crops and help to increase agricultural production. Urea, sodium nitrate, potassium chloride, ammonium phosphate and calcium nitrate are some fertilisers.
\n\n
(b) Pesticides: These chemicals are used to kill pests. (Pests harm crops and reduce the yield). Malathion is a commonly used pesticide.
\n\n
(c) Insecticides: These chemicals are used to kill insects. Heptachlor and BHC are examples of insecticides.
\n\n
(d) Fungicides: These chemicals protect the crops from fungi. Bordeaux mixture is an example of fungicide.

The role of chemistry in clothing-
\n\n
Clothes are important for us. They protect our body from heat and cold. Earlier, only natural fibres like cotton, jute, silk and wool were used. The knowledge of Chemistry has opened the doors to the world of synthetic fibres. Nylon, terylene, polyester and rayon are some commonly used synthetic fibres. These fibres are strong, wrinkle-resistant and dry quickly. These are used to make towels, bedsheets, bags, curtains, carpets, blankets and dress materials.
