HIV is a retrovirus that causes a disease called acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. People contracting this virus gradually become immunodeficient because HIV invades cells of the immune system, primarily T-helper cells. There were many myths and taboos attached to AIDS. People were unwilling to consult doctors because of social unacceptability. This lack of awareness caused an increase in HIV cases and deaths in people. It was necessary to spread awareness among people so that spreading and fatality can be reduced. Education programmes were initiated to spread awareness among students. Some advice offered as part of an HIV/AIDS education programme are listed below:

One should reduce frequent sexual activities.

One should avoid changing partners to avoid the risk of getting HIV.

Protections such as condoms should be used every time while indulging in sexual activities.
