COAP 2020: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will be conducting the GATE COAP 2020. The Common Offer Acceptance Portal registration process has already started on March 18, 2020, and it is open now. To register for COAP, the candidate must have a GATE Registration Number and a valid GATE Score. M.Tech/Ph.D. courses admission in IITs and IISC will be carried out through COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) 2020. Candidates are offered seats on the basis of their score in GATE 2018, 2019 or 2020. The objective of COAP is to fill all the M.Tech. seats in the participating institutes and to provide a common platform for all the participating PSUs to upload their job offers to the GATE qualified candidates. IIT graduates with B.Tech holding 8.0 CGPA need not apply at COAP.

Objectives Of COAP
The objectives of COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) are as under:
a. To provide a common platform for candidates to select the most preferred choice (job in PSU or Graduate study).
b. To offer admission to candidates who do not get any seat due to multiple offers held by some candidates till the last minute, resulting in vacancies.
c. To eliminate the scenarios that arise due to ‘multiple offers’ made by Institutions that cause vacant posts in PSUs or vacant seats in Graduate programs of IITs.
COAP 2020 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who wish to appear for COAP 2020 must meet the COAP eligibility criteria specified by the authorities of GATE COAP. Those candidates who meet all the eligibility criteria stipulated by officials will only be able to appear for the COAP 2020. The COAP 2020 eligibility criteria are listed below:
- Candidates graduating/graduated from IITs and having a valid GATE score from the year 2018, 2019 0r 2020.
- Candidate must be an Indian National.
- Candidates having GATE score in more than one paper must provide details about all the scores.
Candidates who graduated from IITs with B.Tech degree and having CGPA of 7.5 and above (SC/ ST and 8.0 and above) can directly apply to the respective institutes for M.Tech. Admission. They should not register at COAP.
COAP 2020 Registration Process
COAP registration involves the following:

How To Check Admission Offers Through GATE COAP 2020 Portal
Candidates can log in to their COAP portal using their login credentials to check the status of seat allotment. Admission offers by all the participating institutes will be listed in the COAP portal as per the schedule. Candidates can follow the steps mentioned below to check COAP 2020 seat allotment result:
- 1st Step: Visit the COAP official website.
- 2nd Step: Log in to the candidate section using the Login ID and Password.
- 3rd Step: Click on the “Seat Allotment” option.

What To Do After Admission Offers Of GATE COAP 2020?
As mentioned above, after the admission offer is made through COAP 2020, candidates have three primary options to select:
- Accept and Freeze
- Retain and Wait
- Reject and Wait
|Accept and Freeze|
This option should be selected if a candidate is willing to accept one of the available offers and does not want to consider upgrading to higher preferences. Candidates selecting this option WILL NOT be considered in the subsequent round(s) of admission in any of the participating academic institutes and PSUs.
|Retain and Wait|
This option should be selected if a candidate is accepting one of the available offers and also would like to be considered for upgrading to higher preferences. Candidates selecting this option WILL NOT be considered for the other rejected offers in the current round. If any higher preferred offer is made in the next round then the existing ‘Retain and Wait‘ offer will be released.
|Reject and Wait|
This option should be selected if the candidate is not willing to accept any of the offer(s) of admission/job. Nevertheless, the candidate will be considered for other higher preferences, if any, in the subsequent round(s) of admission offered by any participating academic institutes and PSUs.
Decisive Round of Offers:
In the Decisive round of offers (last round of main rounds and all additional rounds), registered candidates will be provided with only in two options of “Accept and Freeze” or “Reject”.
- Candidate should select the option “Accept and Freeze” if the candidate is willing to accept one of the offers. Subsequently, the candidate should visit the respective Academic Institute’s Admission Portal or PSU’s Joining Portal and follow the procedure as per the instructions on the respective website. The admission / joining procedure should be completed within the due date. The below-given flow chart will give you a clear idea about the decisive round of offers.
2. The candidate selects the option “Reject” if the candidate is not willing to accept any of the offers in the current round. Then all offers made during that round will be considered as Rejected.
