Friction is the property of the objects that arises due to the interlocking of irregularities. This opposes the relative motion between the surfaces are in contact.
There are three types of friction that are explained below.
1) Static and sliding friction: Static friction acts between the surfaces of objects that are at rest concerning each other. Sliding friction comes into play when an object starts sliding over the surface. For example, while rubbing a matchstick, the friction between the match box and stick is sliding friction.

2) Rolling friction: It is present between the surfaces when an object is in rolling motion on the floor. It is always lesser than the static as well as sliding friction. For example, rolling tyre experiences rolling friction from the surface.
3) Fluid friction: The friction due to fluids such as air and water is termed as fluid friction. It opposes the motion of automobiles and aeroplanes. A streamlined shaped body experiences the least fluid friction. For example, fishes have a streamlined shape to minimise fluid friction.
