The flower is known as the reproductive organ of a plant. It can be unisexual or bisexual. The female parts of a flower, i.e., stigma, style, ovary and ovule constitute the gynoecium. They help in the production and fertilisation of female gametes.

The explants are used to culture the living cells artificially in the laboratories, in a nutrient medium. A cell, piece of a tissue or an organ from animals or plants can be used as an explant. In plants, these are generally obtained from the growing tips. Under suitable conditions, an explant can undergo cell divisions and form callus.
