The gums and adhesives of industrial importance are produced from the Acacia tree. These are the vegetable origin substance, mostly obtained as exudate from the bark of trees or shrubs belonging to the family Fabaceae.

(ii) Resin - (c) Pinus

Resins are substances that plant cells produce in response to injury or infection in trees and shrubs. It is a useful product of gymnospermous wood-like Pinus. It may be hard or soft in nature and is used in the paint industry as an organic solvent e.g. turpentine. The resin has antibacterial properties which prevent the damaged tree from getting infected. In this same way, pine resin can also be used to heal our wounds.

Bombyx mori, a lepidopteran whose caterpillar has been used in sericulture for thousands of years, feeds on the Mulberry plant and as a result, mulberry silk is formed. $90 %$ of the silk produced in the world is of this type. Non-sericin components consist of carbohydrates, salt, wax, flavonoids, and flavonoid derivatives and vary according to the silkworm strain.

Pearls are produced from the pearl-producing oysters due to the entry of dust particles followed by the aragonite $({CaCO}_{3}),$ chitin and lustrin deposition around the particle. They can be produced naturally or can be generated artificially by culturing.
