A lunar orbiter, lander, and rover will be sent by the Indian spacecraft Chandrayaan- $2$ . The lander carrying the rover attempted but failed to touch down in the southern hemisphere of the Moon after the three vehicles launched as one integrated spacecraft to lunar orbit in July $2019$ . Observing the Moon from above, the orbiter keeps on.

The mission expands on the work of ISRO's Chandrayaan- $I I$ orbiter, which was launched in October $2008$ and functioned for ten months. Future planetary missions will benefit from Chandrayaan- $2$ 's upgraded instrumentation and new technology. The lander and rover were only supposed to last for one lunar day, even if they had made it to the moon, whereas the orbiter is slated to run for seven years.
