A patent is a set of exclusive rights granted by a sovereign state to an inventor or assignee for a limited period of time in exchange for detailed public disclosure of an invention. Bio-patent applies to patents obtained by individuals or groups or country in order to gain exclusive rights over the origins of an organism or plants concerned. It allows the patent holder to exclude the making, selling, importing, and protecting the invention for a limited period of time. It includes biotechnology-related things, and genetically modified organisms, and genetic material. Examples of this are basmati rice and neem products have a patent right to India.

Insulin is the substance released by the cells of the pancreas, which is helpful for the absorption of glucose by the cells. Humulin refers to human insulin, which is produced in laboratories. It is the synthetic insulin that is grown in the laboratory to imitate the insulin in humans. It was first synthesised in Switzerland by Dr Teusche in 1975 and was later approved in the year 1982 by the Food and Drug Administration. Humulin N is an intermediate acting insulin that is slower to act and lasts longer than regular human insulin.
