In countries like Britain and Ireland, Frontal rainfall is quite common. In frontal rainfall, the warm, tropical air mass collides with a cold, polar air mass. The air rises above the cold front because it is in the warm front. A stratus cloud forms as the air cools and condenses. Thus, precipitation starts to occur when the stratus cloud reaches saturation. In Coastal India, especially the Bay of Bengal states receive frontal rainfall.

In India, the Western Ghats offer ideal conditions for orographic rainfall. Relief or orographic rainfall is caused by the effect of relief or orography of the land on the moisture-laden winds. When a peak or highland is in the path of moisture-laden winds, relief rainfall occurs. As the moist air strikes the higher relief or landform, it rises, expands, cools down and brings rainfall only on the side of the upland to which it strikes. This side is known as the windward side. The leeward side is the side that receives no precipitation. This rainfall is common in Hawaii, Sierra Nevada, and the Andes.

The rainforest of Africa experiences convectional rainfall. Convectional rainfall mostly occurs in Equatorial regions. The air becomes lighter and rises in convection currents as it warms. As the air rises, it expands and cools, causing condensation to occur and the formation of cumulus clouds. There is a brief period of intense rain mixed with lightning and thunder. Thus, in regions that experience higher heat, such as the Tropics as well, convectional rainfall is frequent. The Amazon basin in South America also experiences convectional rainfall.
