Write the balanced chemical equation for the reaction between calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid. Can you predict the gas produced from the composition of the reactants?

Half fill a test tube with calcium hydroxide solution and place into a rack for later. Place of calcium carbonate in the boiling tube, then place into the rack. Using a measuring cylinder, measure of hydrochloric acid and transfer it to the boiling tube. Seal the tube with a rubber stopper that has the delivery tube attached to it. Remove the test tube containing the calcium hydroxide solution from the rack and place it so that the free end of the delivery tube is below the surface of the solution. Describe what you saw happening to the calcium hydroxide solution.

Write a balanced chemical equation for the reaction between calcium hydroxide solution and carbon dioxide gas.
