Write a short note on the Monarchical and Republican State administration of Mahajanapada.

Monarchical system is based on system of rule of a single person. Supreme authority in this system is vested on the monarch that could be a king or queen who functions as the head of state and achieves his or her position through heredity.

Two of the most important monarchical states during the ancient period were Kashi and Magadha. Kashi was the first strongest mahajanapada, who later had to submit to Kosala and much later annexed by Ajatshatru into the Magadhan territory.

Magadha was the largest and the strongest Mahajanapada in the whole of the Indian subcontinent during the $3 r d$ and $4 t h$ Centuries BC. Its capital was Rajgriha, and it came into prominence under the able rule of Bimbisara and Ajatshatru.

While in the Republican system, the head of the state is elected by the people, who is known as President. Usually people vote to select the representative.

One of the strongest Republican states was Vajji, which was situated north of the Ganga and stretched till Nepal hills. The Vajji state was the confederation of eight clans (Kulas) or Atthakula.
