A bar graph is a way to display data graphically by using rectangular bars. These bars are uniform in width but vary in height or length. The length of each bar represents a value that is proportional to the measure of data. In addition, the bars can be vertical or horizontal. Another name for vertical bars is columns.

Steps of construction of bar graphs/column graphs:

(i) On a graph, draw two lines perpendicular to each other.

(ii) The horizontal line is $x$ -axis and vertical line is $y$ -axis.

(iii) Along the horizontal axis, choose the uniform width of the bars and the uniform gap between the bars and write the names of the data items whose values are to be marked.

(iv) Along the vertical axis, choose a suitable scale in order to determine the heights of the bars for the given values. (Frequency is taken along $y$ -axis).

(v) Calculate the heights of the bars according to the scale chosen and draw the bars.

(vi) Give a name to the bar graph.

Here, for the given data, the scale chosen in $y$ -axis is $35$ smallest division $= 5$ books.

Thus, using the given data, we draw the bar graph as shown below:
