Look at the four animals shown below.

Which four classes of vertebrates are represented by them? Name these classes.

1. Monkey - It belongs to class Mammalia. Mammals are viviparous vertebrates and their bodies are covered with hair. The young ones feed on the milk produced by the mammary glands present in the females.

2. Whale - Whale is an aquatic mammal and thus belongs to class Mammalia. It has some characteristics like the class Pisces, but it is viviparous, i.e., it gives birth to live young ones and is known to have functional mammary glands. They also breathe through the lungs, unlike fishes which breathe through their gills.

3. Crocodile - It belongs to the class Reptilia. Reptiles are terrestrial vertebrates with dry and scaly skin. They generally crawl on their four short legs. Some reptiles can live in water, like the Crocodile, Turtles, Snakes, etc.

4. Fish - Fishes belong to class Pisces. Fishes are aquatic vertebrate animals characterised by a streamlined body and the presence of fins. They have scales on their body that reduces friction.
