Topsoil contains more humus content in it. The roots of many plants absorb food from this layer. Clay is usually used for making pots. It is very smooth and fine. The earthworm is known as Nature’s ploughman because of its activities in the soil. It makes burrows into the soil, thus mixing the soil well. The excreta of the earthworm called worm cast enriches the soil with nitrogen. Deforestation results in carrying away the topsoil which results in soil erosion. Sandy soil is good for cultivating maize as they are rain-fed crops.
