The first phase of respiration occurs in the cytoplasm of the cell. It is the common pathway foe both aerobic and anaerobic respiration. It is Glycolysis. Glycolysis is the process in which one glucose molecule is broken down to form two molecules of pyruvic acid. The glycolysis process is a multi-step metabolic pathway that occurs in the cytoplasm of animal cells, plant cells, and the cells of microorganisms.

Explain the following term in 3 - 4 lines: Cristae

The site of aerobic respiration or cellular respiration is mitochondria. It is a double membranous cell organelle. The inner membrane is folded into Cristae. They are finger-like projections form by the inner membrane of the mitochondria. The bears the oxysomes which are the site of the synthesis of ATP.

Explain the following term in 3 - 4 lines: oxidative phosphorylation

The electron transport chain is a series of four protein complexes that couple redox reactions, creating an electrochemical gradient that leads to the creation of ATP in a complete system named oxidative phosphorylation. Oxidative phosphorylation is a process in which there is a synthesis of ATP in the presence of oxygen. The process will take place in the inner membrane of the mitochondria.

Explain the following term in 3 - 4 lines: Elementary particles

Elementary particles are also called oxysomes. They are the structures that are present on the Inner Membrane of the Mitochondria. They are also called f0-f1 particles or ATP synthase. They play the most important role in the formation of energy for the functioning of the cell.

Coenzyme: Coenzymes are small molecules. They cannot by themselves catalyze a reaction but, they can help enzymes to do so. In technical terms, coenzymes are organic nonprotein molecules that bind with the protein molecule (apoenzyme) to form the active enzyme (holoenzyme)

Explain the following term in 3 - 4 lines: Energy currency of cells

Energy currency of cells: It is ATP which stands for Adenosine Triphosphate. It is called as the currency of the cell as all the process of the cell directly or indirectly is in control of the energy. This ATP is synthesised in the Mitochondria of the Cell. Its other forms are FAD, NADH, GTP.
