Different organisms have different names in different local languages. If a scientist tries to study an organism in a different country where they are only known by the local names in different regions, it would get difficult for the scientist to identify and study the organism. Thus, we need to standardise a name for each organism and this process of naming organisms is known as nomenclature. In biology, we generally use the binomial nomenclature, where the name has two parts. The first part is the name of the genus, while the second part is the name of the species.
