The uses of some inert gases are as follows: Helium is used for filling balloons and air ships as it is light and non-combustible. Neon is largely used for production of neon lights. Such units consist of glass tubes filled with neon Krypton is used in filling discharge tubes and electric bulbs. Xenon is used in research laboratories for the detection of mesons and gamma photons. Radon is used in the treatment of cancer by radiotherapy.

How can oxygen be prepared from: Catalytic decomposition.

Catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide gives oxygen gas along with water. The catalyst used is manganese dioxide which does not require any heat for the decomposition of the reactant. 2 H 2 O 2 → Manganese dioxide 2 H 2 O + O 2

How can oxygen be prepared: From water.

Oxygen is prepared by the electrolytic decomposition of water. When electricity is passed through acidified water it decomposed into its constituents. Hydrogen gas is collected at cathode and oxygen is collected at anode. 2 H 2 O → electrolysis 2 H 2 + O 2
