The cell is the structural and functional unit of life. These minute structures are not visible to our naked eyes and can only be seen through an instrument called a microscope. Based on the number of cells, the organisms possess, they can be classified into - unicellular and multicellular organisms.

The term multicellular consists of two-part in itself i.e. multi-meaning “many” and cellular meaning “cell”. Multicellular organisms are those living organisms that are made up of many cells. Based on complexity, the multicellular organisms show different levels of the organization. These organisms are also called eukaryotes. These are explained as follows:

$Cell \to Tissue \to Organ \to Organ system$

Examples of multicellular organisms:

1. Plants: These include herbs, shrubs, and trees. All three have the root system for water and minerals absorption, shoot system for photosynthesis (to produce oxygen and glucose), and leaves that perform all the living activities to sustain life.

2. Animals: These include cows, fishes, horses, camels, and human beings, etc. These animals have different organ systems to perform different functions.
