Given, A B ∥ C D , ∠ A P Q = 40 ° and ∠ P R D = 118 ° . We need to find the value of x and y . ∠ A P R = ∠ P R D ( ∵ Alternate interior angles are equal) ⇒ 40 ° + y = 118 ° ⇒ y = 78 ° If a side of a triangle is produced, then the exterior angle so formed is equal to the sum of its two interior opposite angles. Now, x + y = 118 ° ⇒ x + 78 ° = 118 ° ⇒ x = 40 ° Hence, x = 40 ° and y = 78 ° .
