Check whether, x = 1 2 is a zero of the polynomial p x = 2 x + 1 or not?

For a polynomial p x , if x = a is zero, then p a must be equal to zero. Given polynomial is p x = 2 x + 1 . When x = 1 2 , we get, p 1 2 = 2 1 2 + 1 = 2 Hence, x = 1 2 is not a zero of the polynomial p ( x ) = 2 x + 1 .

Find the zero of the polynomial, p x = a x where a ≠ 0 .

Given polynomial is p x = a x . We know that, For a polynomial p ( x ) , if x = a is a zero of the polynomial p ( x ) then p a must be equal to zero. Now, p x = 0 ⇒ a x = 0 ⇒ a = 0 or x = 0 But, given that a ≠ 0 Hence, x = 0 is a zero of the polynomial p x = a x .
