The cartoon reminds us of the Massacre in Tiananmen Square, which was triggered by the death of Hu Yaobang, who was a liberal reformer. Due to his death, mass gatherings and protests took place around Tiananmen in Beijing, which were largely supported by student-run demonstrations for economic reforms, freedom of the press, and political liberalisation. The Chinese government suppressed the movement for which it was internationally condemned.
