Erna Kranz was just a teenager and, like many other Germans, felt that Germany under Hitler's leadership was improving. After years of economic crisis and political instability, conditions seemed to be better for the people.

Belonging to what the Nazis called the pure Aryans race, she did not have to go through the discrimination and torture that the 'undesirable' communities were going through at that time.
