Motion is defined as an action that results in a change in position or location. Motion in simple words is any type of movement. That being said, what causes this movement. Well, motion is caused by a force. The force causes any stationary object to move as it acts on and makes it change its position. Once the motion occurs, it keeps moving with the same speed and in the same direction unless another external force acts on it. When this happens the speed of the movement (velocity) goes up, the direction changes, or the motion can slow down and stop completely.

An external unbalanced force. This force brings about an acceleration which is responsible for bringing a change in the state or motion of an object. Force is the cause of change in the state of motion of a body or an object. It is a quantitative description of an interaction that causes a change in an object's motion. Force can cause an object to move or accelerate, to slow down or decelerate, to stop, or to change its direction.
