There are three laws of reflection and they are as follows:

$1$ . The incident ray,the reflected ray and the normal to the point of reflection lies in the same plane.

2.Angle of incidence with respect to the normal is equal to angle of reflection $∠$ i= $∠$ r and

3.The reflected ray and the incident ray are on the opposite sides of the normal.

The law of refraction is also called as snells law as it was first observed by Snell and Descartes in the year 1621 hence also called as snell-descartes law is as follows:

It states that the ratio of sines of the angle of incidence and the angle of refraction is equivalent to the ratio of reciprocal of there refractive indices when the incident ray moves from a rarer medium to denser medium.

Mathematical statement includes: $\frac{\sin (θ_{2})}{\sin (θ_{1})}$ = $\frac{η_{1}}{η_{2}}$ ;

where $θ$ 2 is the angle of refracted ray w.r.t normal and

$θ$ ₁ is the angle of incident ray w.r.t normal

$η$ ₁ is the refractive index of incident medium(lighter medium) and

$η$ ₂ is the refractive index of refracted medium(denser medium)
