Almost all the coal reserves of the country are found in south Indian rocks belonging to the Gondwana age. Some coal-producing areas are Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh. Lignite's major part, about ninety percent is found in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, and its surrounding regions. Some oil refineries are in Jalandhar, Kanpur, Mathura, Koyali, Trombay, Baruni, Guwahati, Digboi, Haldia, Vishakhapatnam, Chennai, and Patnam.
