A smooth shining surface, which rebounds the light back in the same or in a different direction is called a mirror. It is silvered on one side as it acts as an opaque object and it reflects or rebounds the light falling on its surface.

When a ray of light falls on a smooth and shiny surface, the whole light is sent back in the same medium. It is called reflection. Mirrors do not allow even a small amount of light to pass through them as they are layered with silver at one side.
