Some materials float on water, whereas, others sink. Floating or sinking of an object depends upon the density of the liquid and the density of the materials. Density is a property of matter that describes how heavy an object is for its size. Water has a density equal to 1g/cm3 and when the density of a material is less than one it will float in water but if its density is more than one it will sink.
