1. If we consider ice, its density is around 920 kg m 3 which is greater than kerosene but lesser than that in water and glycerine. Thus, ice will float in water and glycerine whereas it sinks in kerosene. 2. The density of aluminium is around 2740 kg m 3 which is much greater than all the three liquids. This means that aluminium has more mass and thus, it weighs more. Hence, aluminium sinks in water, glycerine and kerosene oil. 3. Cork is a material with low density. It means that the mass of cork is very less for a unit volume. Thus, cork sinks in kerosene oil, glycerine and water. This shows that different materials have different density and this variation causes them to sink or float.
