The cells in our body lose the ability to differentiate and divide after a certain period of time. But there are certain cells which have the ability to divide constantly they are called as stem cells. These stem cells help in forming new cells when the cells in a particular organ are dead. After each division the stem cell forms two new cells out of which one forms the cell of the concerned organ while the other remains a stem cell. These stem cells are found in bone marrow and placenta of newborn babies. These placental stem cells can be used to treat various genetic disorders and diseases like cancer. Placental stem cells are multipotent cells and can be used for regenerating organs. Damaged organs can be reconstructed or regenerated with the help of stem cells. So after childbirth placenta is stored in laboratories for use in the future.
