Two separate pits X and Y are dug in the ground. Material P is placed in pit X and material Q is placed in pit Y. Both are covered with soil. We generate so much garbage in our day-to-day activities. This includes agriculture waste, industrial waste, domestic Waste, E-waste, etc. E-waste and human life are related. Justify this statement.

Waste can be defined as discarded and useless materials which do not possess any value. Solid waste is generated from different sources such as households, industries, agriculture, commercial spaces and other human activities, and pose significant environmental and public health risks. Waste are generally two types, biodegradable and non-biodegradable. What kind of waste will be biodegradable – derived from living things, derived from non-living things that were once alive, or derived from non-living things that were never alive?

Decomposition is an important process of waste management. Imagine there is no decomposition of dead bodies. What kind of problem would crop up then? What course of action will you take in this circumstance?

Jyoti saw his mother getting ready to cook finger chips. She asked Jyoti to help her make finger chips. She gave him instructions to bring some potatoes and wash them thoroughly. He offered her mother some potatoes after washing them with water. She told him to get the oil from the small can as she started to cut the potatoes into the shape of fingers. When he opened the bottle cap and took the can, he smelled something awful. He informed his mother of the offensive odour. She also smelled the oil and told him to pour it down the drain because the oil was no longer good. She next unwrapped a fresh packet of oil to fry these chips.

Is it good to discard oils and fats in the drains?

The use of paper is more environmentally friendly than the use of polythene for packaging. But some people say that polythene bags are better than paper bags as they save a lot of trees. Justify these both statements.
