The state and central governments have established many 'wildlife sanctuaries' (e.g., Manas, Periyar, etc) and 'national parks' in order to protect forests and wildlife.

The government also implement the 'Forest Conservation Act' and this act is aimed at the preservation and conservation of natural forests and meeting the basic needs of the people living in or near the forests.
