Two glass beakers (A and B) were taken and filled them with equal quantity of water. Now added a teaspoon full of salt in beaker A. Kept on adding one teaspoon of salt at a time. Recorded the number of teaspoons of salt that dissolved in beaker A. Now repeated the activity by adding teaspoon full of sugar in beaker B. Again recorded the number of teaspoons of full of sugar that was dissolved in beaker B.

Does the same quantity of water dissolve same amount of sugar and salt?

Since, salt and sugar are two different compounds with complete different properties, hence same quantity of water will not dissolve same amount of sugar and salt. According to this experiment, salt solution in beaker A and sugar solution in beaker B dissolved different amount of salt and sugar respectively because salt breaks into ions on dissolving in water whereas, sugar molecules does not break. Once dissolved and free to move within the solution, the bonds between sugar molecules and water are more numerous than those that can form between the ${Na}^{+}$ and ${Cl}^{-}$ ions in salt. So, in the same quantity of water, more amount of sugar will be dissolved than that of salt.
