Mira Behn was a follower of Gandhiji. She was highly influenced by the thoughts, ideas, philosophy, and ways of working of Gandhiji. She even worked for the upliftment of the underprivileged sections of Indian society.

She also worked against discrimination, untouchability and worked in favour of women's empowerment and giving them equal status in the male-dominated society. She also focussed on the development of agriculture, industries, education.

Apart from all this, she was an environmentalist and wanted to protect the environment along with economic development.

She believed that nature should be exploited within the limits of nature. She firmly believed in the concept of sustainable development along with economic growth.

She wrote in $1949$ , "by science and machinery he (mankind) may get huge returns for a time, but ultimately will come to desolation. We have to got to study nature's balance, and develop our lives within her laws if we are to survive as physically healthy and morally decent species".
