The eye lens forms an image of an object on the retina which is at the back of the eye. The retina is covered by a large number of nerve cells sensitive to light, which carry the impression to the brain by means of the optic nerve. There are two kinds of nerve cells on the retina. Cones that sense colour and are sensitive to bright light. Rods that are sensitive to dim light.

The blind spot is the area on the retina which does not have any nerve cells. Therefore, an image that falls on this region will not be seen. It is located in the region where the optic nerve leaves the eye on its way to the brain.

Myopia is a defect commonly occurring in the eye which makes it difficult to see clearly the distant objects, though it can see nearby objects. The defect can be removed by using spectacles having concave lenses of suitable power.
