Wind is moving air. It is produced by the uneven heating of the earth’s surface by the sun. Since, the earth's surface is made of various land and water formations, it absorbs the sun’s radiation unevenly. When the hot air above the surface of land or water rises up, cold air from the surrounding high pressure region rushes to occupy the empty space created by the hot air. This phenomenon results in winds.

A tornado is a special kind of storm. It is a whirling wind, circling around a low-pressure centre. A tornado gushes from a cloud towards the ground as a vertical, funnel-shaped column of air. A tornado may have speeds of 100 to 300 miles per hour that can damage anything in its path.
