A rational number is a category that includes numbers which can be written in the fractional form $\frac{p}{q}$ , where $p, q$ are any real numbers and $q \neq 0$ . It includes all the integers, fractions, terminating decimals, and non-terminating but repeating decimals.

Example: $0.8, 1.3475, 10.23$ (Terminating Decimals);

$0.3, 1.257, 102.145776$ (Non-terminating but repeating Decimals)

There is a category of decimal numbers, which is not rational. It is known as non-terminating non-repeating decimals. The best example for this is $π$ , whose decimal expansion never repeats.

Hence, all the decimal numbers cannot be categorised as rational numbers.
