Growth in both boys and girls stops after a certain period of time after the onset of puberty. Puberty is the transition between childhood and adulthood. Girls enter puberty at the age of 10 to 13 years and boys enter puberty at 12 to 14 years of age. In girls, the growth spurt is seen between 8 and 13 years, and they reach their maximum height by the age of 17 years. It is generally seen that in girls, the growth in height stops after one or two years after the start of menstruation. In boys, the growth spurt is seen between 12 and 15 years, and they reach their maximum height by the age of 18 years. From the above graph, it is clear that the growth in height nearly stops at the age of 18 in all individuals.

Growth in boys occurs throughout the infancy, childhood and continues in puberty. But after childhood, with the onset of puberty, the fastest-growing period or growth spurt is seen in males. This period starts at the age of 12 and continues until 15 years of age. Maximum height is achieved till the age of 18 in boys. This change in growth rate is due to the hormonal changes, like an increase in the levels of testosterone released from the testes and an increase in the secretion of growth hormone, that occurs during puberty. Here, from the above graph, we find that the growth of boys is the fastest between 12 years and 15 years.

From the above graph we can say that during the early stages of life, girls grow faster than boys. Girls grow throughout infancy and childhood. But with the onset of puberty, this rate of growth increases many folds. But the rate slows down at the end of their adolescence, and they reach their maximum height by the age of 17 years. In the graph, it is shown that between 8 and 13 years of age, the growth rate in girls is fast. But in boys, the growth rate is the fastest between 12 and 15 years of age. So, we can say that girls grow faster than boys during the initial stages of life. The growth in girls stops after a couple of years after monthly menstruation get started but boys keep growing till 18 years of age.
