Salient features of Fungi:

Fungi have a heterotrophic mode of nutrition. They feed on mostly dead organic matter and are saprophytic. Some fungi like Mucor are parasites.

Mostly the body of fungi consists of a long, slender, thread-like structure called hyphae. The network of hyphae is known as mycelium.

Reproduction in fungi takes place by Vegetative reproduction that includes fragmentation, fission, budding. Asexual reproduction by the formation of Conidium, Zoospores, etc. Sexual reproduction includes plasmogamy, karyogamy, etc.

The basidiospores are produced on a basidium and are arranged on basidiocarps. Reproduction takes place by asexual spores called conidia.
