The seeds obtained from a plant are usually dry and remain in a dormant stage until they are subjected to suitable conditions. This means the dry seeds remain alive but inactive for long periods. This period of inactive conditions is called the dormant stage. But when a seed gets water, air, and warmth during favourable conditions, it begins to germinate. This beginning of growth is called the germination of seeds. In dicot, the radicle grows first to form the roots later plumule grows into the shoot and forms the seedling which develops into a new plant.The radicle grows downwards into the soil and forms root. Cotyledons form the primary green leaves which make food for the growing seedling.
