IAA is Indole-3-acetic acid is a plant growth regulator. They are generally produced by the growing apices of the stems and roots, from where they migrate to the regions of their action. Auxins like IAA and indole butyric acid (IBA) have been isolated from plants. It is also used to induce parthenocarpy in plants.

MMC stands for megaspore mother cell. It is a large cell containing dense cytoplasm and a prominent nucleus. MMC undergoes megasporogenesis. The process of formation of megaspores from the megaspore mother cell is called megasporogenesis. The MMC undergoes meiotic division which results in the production of four megaspores. In a majority of flowering plants, one of the megaspores is functional while the other three degenerate. Only the functional megaspore develops into the female gametophyte (embryo sac). This method of embryo sac formation from a single megaspore is termed monosporic development.
