Light is a form of energy which sensitises the sense of vision in humans and other creatures. Light itself is not visible. When light falls on an object, it is scattered by the object. It is reflected by smooth and shiny opaque surfaces and forms an image. We can see image in water because a water surface is neither a perfect mirror nor perfectly invisible. Part of the light rays from you are reflected on the water surface, so that you can see your image. A part of the light rays reaching the bottom of the pond are scattered by the objects there and also fall into your eyes. Both the water and mirror behave in the same manner because they both reflect light.
