$2 .$ Which is closer to the house - market or hospital?

$4 .$ If you were to walk from the house to the post office and then to the park before returning to the house, how much distance will be needed to cover?

Map: A map depicts the location of an object or place in relation to other objects or places. There is no reference or perspective in a map. So, the map remains the same irrespective of the position of the observer.

There are different kinds of map such as route map, neighbourhood maps, city maps, country maps and weather maps. An important consideration while drawing maps is the 'scale'. A scale for a map is chosen so that it reduces the real distances proportionately on the paper.

Here, in the given map, we have $1 cm = 1 km$

Now, let us answer the given questions as follows.

The distance of the school from the house $= 3 cm = 3 km$

The distance of the house to the market $= 1.2 cm = 1.2 km$

The distance of the house to the hospital $= 5 cm = 5 km$

i.e., the distance from the house to the market is shorter.

The two places that are equidistant ( $3 km$ ) from the house are post office and school.

Total distance from the house to the post office, from the post office to the park and from the park to the house $= 3 cm + 4.7 cm + 1.5 cm = 9.2 cm = 9.2 km$
