Resources are limited on this planet, whereas the aspirations and needs of people are unlimited. To meet their developmental needs, and earn huge incomes, people have encroached upon nature and led to environmental degradation.

Environmental degradation is a process through which the natural environment is depleted in some way or another, affecting biological diversity and the natural health of the environment. The environmental impact of economic growth includes the increased consumption of non-renewable resources, higher levels of pollution, global warming, and the potential loss of environmental habitats. These all effects have led to major man-made disasters in the past.

Development can lead to degradation of the environment in turn, environmental degradation can impede development. The need of the hour is to shift to sustainable measures of development, in order to preserve nature for coming generations.
