A lever is a simple machine and lever of the first type has its pivot between the effort force and the load. See-saw is an example of the first type lever. Ice-tong is an example of this type of lever. Any pair of tongs belongs to this type of lever. A wedge is a device that has two or more sloping surface either in the form of a sharp edge or pointed edge. They are used for splitting or for piercing materials. Nail is such a material which can be pierced through. Wheel and axle is a kind of continuous lever. It is made up of a wheel connected to a rod called axle. A pulley is also a type of wheel and axle with a chain attached. It helps to change the direction of motion to work with gravity.
