A geyser and an electrical iron use the heating effect of electricity to produce heat. This heat is produced due to the resistance produced by the element used in these appliances. Is this heating effect going to melt the fuse wire? Do you think this resistance results in the wastage of electric energy?

As we have studied that electricity is produced in power stations and supplied to our homes through transmission lines. During transmission, some part of electricity is lost due to heating effct produced by transmission lines. If the power station produces 3500 megawatts of electricity and the distance between power station and the city is 450 kilometers and the rate of loss is 4%, find out the total electricity that reaches the city and also the electricity lost due to heating effect in megawatts. If the cost of electricity is 1235 per megawatt, then calculate the loss in rupees also.
