The image formed by a plane mirror is laterally inverted. In the image the right side appears to be left and left side appears to be right. The light rays which strikes the surface separating the two media is called incident rays. This incident ray makes an angle with the normal called the angle of incidence. Normal is an imaginary line, perpendicular to the reflecting surface which is drawn at the point of incidence. Incident ray, normal and reflected ray all lie on the same plane. Kaleidoscope forms multiple images, which are not repeated. Kaleidoscope is an instrument which works by producing multiple reflections from three plane mirrors. Cells which are sensitive to dim light are called rods. They helps in providing vision at night. Cells which are sensitive to bright light are called cones. They are responsible for colour vision. The transparent front part of the eye that protects the eye is cornea. It bends or refract the light entering our lens. Iris is the structure behind the cornea. Iris gives a distinctive colour to the eye. It regulates the amount of light entering the eyes. The pupil is a small opening in the iris. It allows light to enter into our eye. Cones are cells present in the retina of the eye which is sensitive to bright light and which is shaped like a cone. These cells are responsible for colour vision.

The phenomenon of splitting of white light into seven colours is called dispersion of light. It occurs due to the different degrees of refraction of each colour. Note: When a beam of sunlight is passed through a glass prism, it splits up into seven colours.

The ray of light which falls on the mirror or a reflecting surface is called the incident ray. Note: The angle between incident ray and the normal is incident angle.
