A rectangular loop of area $5 m^{2}$ , has $50$ turns and carries a current of $1 A$ . It is held in a uniform magnetic field of $0.1 T$ , at an angle of $30 °$ . Calculate the torque experienced by the coil.

Given,

Area of the rectangular loop, $A = 5 m^{2}$

Current carried by the rectangular loop, $I = 1 A$

Magnetic filed, $B = 0.1 T$

Number of turns, $n = 50$

Angle between the normal to the rectangular loop and the direction of the uniform magnetic field is, $θ = 30 °$

Torque experienced by a current loop containing $n$ turns in uniform magnetic field is given by, $τ = nIAB \sin θ$

Substitute all the values from above, we get,

$τ = 50 \times 1 \times 5 \times 0.1 \times (\sin 30 °) = 12.5 N m$

So, the total torque experienced by the coil is $12.5 N m$ .

The torque is maximum when the coil is parallel to the magnetic field and zero when the coil is perpendicular to the magnetic field.
